Movies are the best mediums to communicate the horrors of wars and the chaos behind it. Below we've created a list of best Indian war movies about tales of war that deserves to be told. Take a look at them:

3 Indian war movies you shouldn't skip

1. Border (1997)

R | 176 min | Action, Drama, History

As a soldier, you've got two battles to fight. One on the personal front and the other on the professional front. 'Border' claims to be based on the true events happened during the battle of Longewala of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Movies revolve around a company of 120 Indian soldiers under the leadership of Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri (Sunny Deol) and how he and his men defend against an attack by a Pakistani strike force.

Director J.P. Dutta's sense of storytelling makes us realize how soldiers go on laying down their lives for their country while giving up all the personal luxuries. Music, on the other hand, works like an icing on the cake. Dutta owes it all to Anu Malik for beautiful sound design for Border. Overall, 'Border' is a sensible flick with beautiful cinematography.

Director: J.P. Dutta | Stars: Rakhee Gulzar, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty

2. Lakshya (2004)

186 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

There were times when Farhan Akhtar with his debut film 'Dil Chahta Hai' raised the bar for filmmaking in Bollywood. He was steering ahead off Directors like Karan Johar who was stirring same family dramas again and again.

There was news about his second film starring Hrithik Roshan as an army officer. Then the trailer for Lakshya was released. The film, however, didn't well on the box office but Farhan Akhtar, on the other hand, said that 'He exactly wanted to make a film like this and he was proud of it.'

The film had great cinematography (which was rare in those days) and Shankar Ehsan Loy was attributed to a brilliant sound design. Keeping aside the fact that how well this film performed or not, Lakhya can still be tagged as one of the best Indian War Movies.

Director: Farhan Akhtar | Stars: Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Om Puri

3. The Ghazi Attack (2017)

116 min | Action, History, Thriller

The Ghazi Attack is India's first film about underwater warfare. Set during the Indo-Pak war period of 1971, Ghazi Attack tells is about how INS Karanj (S21) sank PNS Ghazi (Pakistani Submarine) who was trying to attack the Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.

Despite the limited resources for such an engaging and ambitious project, director Sankalp Reddy did a great job. Though the films lack in character development, Sankalp nonetheless makes you connect with the characters easily.

While the visual effects of the film were not crisp, the gripping plot takes hold of the losing ground. Despite all the shortfalls this film has, it's still a film worth watching.

Director: Sankalp Reddy | Stars: Rana Daggubati, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni, Om Puri
